North Topsail Beach
Incorporated
in 1990, the town derives its name from its location - the northern
end of Topsail Island. Linked to the mainland by a high-rise bridge,
North Topsail Beach has a population of 843 and is located in the
Stump Sound Township in Onslow County. Governed by a council-manager
form of government, the board consists of a mayor and five aldermen.
The northernmost tip of North Topsail Beach is where the New River
meets the ocean. It serves as one of the more popular spots for
fishing. The town has one fishing pier and three beach accesses,
complete with rest rooms, showers and plenty of parking areas.
The town's newest feature is a lovely town park, with amenities such
as a tot lot, picnic shelter, volleyball, basketball, tennis courts,
a nature trail, rest room facilities and a gazebo with a spectacular
sound view.
North Topsail Beach also plays host to a variety of endangered
animals, among them the loggerhead turtle. Loggerheads nest on the
Carolinas' coast from May through August and require an undisturbed
incubation period of 55-65 days.
Visitors and residents alike are encouraged to report sightings to
the Sea Turtle Rescue and Rehabilitation Center at (910) 328-1000.
