Education

The Topsail Area enjoys first-rate education systems in both Pender and Onslow Counties. In Onslow County, more than 22,000 students attend public school each year. In fact, the Onslow County public school system is consistently rated one of the best in the state of North Carolina. The system boasts over 150 national board certified teachers, and was the first North Carolina system to receive the District Accreditation Award. Students consistently score above the state average in state assessments. There are 18 elementary schools (grades pre-K-5), eight middle schools (grades 6-8) and seven high schools (grades 9-12). There is also an alternative learning center for grades 6-12.

In terms of higher education, Coastal Carolina Community College (CCCC) has been ranked one of the best in the state and is a fully accredited institution. In addition to degree programs, Coastal Carolina offers a variety of continuing education courses, as well as an award-winning business and industry center. The University of North Carolina - Wilmington also offers programs at the Coastal Carolina campus and other universities, such as Campbell and Boston, offer programs at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune and Marine Corps Air Station New River.

Pender County public schools, with an annual enrollment of approximately 7,000, have an equally distinctive reputation, and boast several "Schools of Excellence." In fact, students in the Pender Public School system have increased their ranking for several consecutive years. Cited as one of the fastest growing school districts in the state, there are seven elementary schools (grades pre-K-5), four middle schools (grades 6-8) and three high schools (grades 9-12). Pender County also has an alternative learning center for grades 7-10 and one year-round school.

Cape Fear Community College in Wilmington is a fully accredited institution. Its offerings include degree programs and continuing education courses. The main Cape Fear Community College campus also offers a small business resource center. Also in Wilmington, the highly acclaimed University of North Carolina offers several four and six-year degree programs.
