Agriculture/Aquaculture

The Greater Topsail Area, which spans Onslow and Pender Counties, is blessed with some of nature's finest forests, farmlands and wetlands, all of which have sustained generations of families for some 400 years.

The region is home to such native crops as strawberries, blueberries, grapes and pumpkins. Agritourism is on the rise, as guests may visit area farms and wineries, and witness farm life in southeastern North Carolina. Pender County is also home to several horse farms, which breed Arabians, and more exotic farms that raise ostriches and emus.

Onslow County features over 30 miles of wide, unspoiled beaches awash with seashells, waters alive with marine life, maritime forests teeming with wildlife and farmlands abundant with harvests.

In Pender County you will discover an area rich in wildlife, from nesting loggerhead sea turtles to black bear, deer and wild turkeys. The Holly Game Preserve is among the largest state controlled hunting preserves on the East Coast.

Closer to the shore, bird watching, turtle watching and dolphin and whale watching are among the favorite pastimes.
