Chamber of Commerce and Tourism
Five-Year Strategic Planning Goals

By 2012 the Topsail Area Chamber of Commerce will facilitate the creation of a "Villages by the Sea" family oriented environment for the Topsail area.

Five major issues will drive the Chamber, and all of its efforts:

• Ensuring "Smart Growth"
• Development and marketing of a "Villages by the Sea" image
• Confronting beach erosion and waterways issues
• Decreasing seasonality of the beach businesses
• Developing the organization, role, and funding of the Chamber

The organizational structure of the Chamber will reflect the need to respond to these issues. The following committees or task forces shall assist in implementing the Chamber's response:

• Communications
• Economic Development
• Governmental Affairs
• Membership/Member Services
• Organizational Development
• Programs/Special Events

various committees of the Chamber have five-year goals to ensure success, so that the Topsail Area Chamber of Commerce shall:

• Own its facilities
• Assist in beach renourishment
• Assist in the Save Our Summers initiative
• Be the umbrella organization for tourism
• Conduct three events per season
• Facilitate the development of a Topsail Area Planning Overlay
• Have a multi-media campaign
• Institute an Ambassador program
• Hold an annual "State of the Villages" event

The goals have been developed such that the committees should be able to take the information in the Expanded Summary and further develop them to the point of reporting back to the board a listing of specific action items for each of the next five years. Completion of the specific action items should result in goal achievement ultimately resulting in addressing the defined major issues.

The Chamber shall review, revise, and modify the critical issues, goals, and action items at least annually to ensure that the strategic direction of the Chamber is aligned to the needs of the members and community in a constantly changing environment.
